Importer Exporter Code (IEC) Registration |

The IEC Code or Importer Exporter Code is a 10-digit identification number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. It is a mandatory requirement for any individual or business entity looking to engage in international trade activities, such as importing or exporting goods and services from India.

Whether you’re a manufacturer, trader, startup, or service provider planning to expand globally, obtaining an IEC Code is the first step toward making your business international. Without this license, customs authorities do not permit import or export clearance.

The process is fully online and can be completed within 2 working days with proper documentation and expert guidance. Once issued, the IEC remains valid for a lifetime, but it must be updated annually on the DGFT portal to remain active and compliant.

Importer Exporter Code Registration Eligibility Criteria

- - Any individual, proprietorship, partnership, LLP, company, or trust involved in import/export activities
  - No requirement for prior experience in international trade
  - No need for GST registration if not applicable

- - Business Name & PAN Card
  - Active Bank Account in Business Name
  - Digital Signature Certificate (DSC – Class 2 or Class 3)
  - Valid Email ID and Mobile Number

Renewal and Updation of IEC Code |

Although the IEC is valid for a lifetime, the DGFT mandates an annual update of the IEC profile, even if there are no changes. Failure to update the IEC may lead to deactivation by DGFT.
